Located 200 m east of the Yan Family Garden, it is a famous garden in the suburb of Suzhou in the Qianlong Period of Qing. Facing the Xiangxi River and leaning against the Lingyan Hill, its landscape excels all the other gardens. It thus became a must for every southbound trip in Mudu of the Qianlong Emperor, where he would make a tour, watch opera, drink tea till nightfall before he returned to his Imperial Palace in Lingyan Hill by walking along the imperial Shantang Street. Therefore, Hongyin Shanfang Garden was known to the locals as the Qianlong Emperor’s “Civil Imperial Palace”.
